Green Week 2014 to focus on Circular Economy.

Green Week 2014

The EU’s Green Week is the biggest annual conference on European environment policy. This year it will take place from 3rd to 5th June at The Egg Conference Centre, Rue Bara, in Brussels. We are particularly excited by this year’s theme – Circular Economy, Resource Efficiency & Waste.

As you will know from our website information, a circular economy is the only logical solution for a resource-constrained world. It’s a place where almost nothing is wasted. It’s where the re-use and re-manufacturing of products has become standard practice. In Circular economies, sustainability is built into the very core fabric of society.

In 2014 the EU Commission is expected to set out new proposals enabling Europe to unlock the potential of the circular economy. A particular focus will be better waste management, and the contribution it can make in helping the EU use its resources more efficiently. There is a vast potential in this effort both for inefficiencies (cost reduction) and new employment prospects throughout the EU.

Green Week 2014 offers a unique opportunity for debate and exchanges of experience and best practice. Over the past decade, the conference has established itself as an unmissable event for anyone involved with protecting the environment. The 2013 edition attracted some 2.100 participants from government, business and industry, non-governmental organisations, academia and the media.

The Green Week 2014 programme is available now from the GreenWeek website. Remember that Green Week is open to the public and participation is free of charge. There is also an area for exhibitors and satellite events take place all around Europe to coincide with the week.

Let’s hope that after all the exchanges, debate and dialogue that the EU Commission takes concrete and positive steps to eliminate the waste of valuable resources lost to landfills, Thermal treatments and Incineration which is leaking re-usable (re-workable) resources from the emerging circular economy.

So, why not make plans to attend now and help us all connect the circle.
